Summary Of 10 walks in Kathmandu

This book seeks to encourage people to explore UNESCO’S World Heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley such as the Durbar Squares in front of medieval royal palaces, the Bodhnath and Swayambhu stupas and Pashupatinath and Changunarayan temples. These sites are repositories of art and architecture in pagoda and shikara styles. The Hindu temples and Buddhist stupas form an integral part of the rich cultural heritage of Nepal. But these sites are as much a part of the present as of the past. People make pilgrimages and celebrate festivals at these sites and have cultivated such institutions as the ‘living goddess’ all of which have combined to bestow the title of a ‘living museum’ on the Kathmandu Valley KEY SELLING POINTS • A collection of ten walks that one can take in the Kathmandu Valley to explore UNESCO’s World Heritage sites there. • Descriptions of the art and architecture of the temples and the stupas in the valley. • Informational about all the sites—directions to reach them, their history, architecture, things to do in and around. • Inclusive of photographs that provide a panoramic view of the valley’s sites. • Written by Prakash A. Raj, an internationally renowned travel writer from Nepal.
