This volume presents a selection of short stories and poetry for the study of the ‘Women’s Writing’ paper in the English (Hons.) curriculum for undergraduate students, under the Choice Based Credits System (CBCS). The poetry section engages with the poetry of Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath, and Eunice de Souza, while the prose section engages with the short stories of Katherine Mansfield, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and Mahasveta Devi. Every text is accompanied by an introductory essay that engages with feminist scholarship on the respective authors, in order to present possible ways of looking at the texts in question. The texts are annotated wherever deemed necessary. Each text is followed by a carefully curated set of critical essays. The general introduction to the volume offers insights into the developments in literary criticism and women’s writing over the years, engaging with contemporary scholarship in Black feminist thought and critical race theory, queer and trans feminist scholarship, and Dalit feminist scholarship.
