The Trial is an invisible and a unique piece of fiction introduced by Franz Kafka. It tells the story of Joseph K., who is increasingly oppressed by an insane penal procedure, is able neither to find out what crime he is accused of nor to confront the tribunal that is supposed to be judging him; forgoing a trial, the invisible tribunal eventually orders his execution. The Trial was originally written in German by Kafka and was left unfinished at his death. Kafka requested his close friend Max Brod that he would burn all his writings unread after his death. But against Kafka’s will Brod gave the world the immortal gift of his words.
