The book recounts the alleged forbidden love affair between Maitreyi Devi and Mircea Eliade when he stayed in Kolkata in 1930s. ‘La Nuit Bengali’ was published in 1933. To counter this story by Eliade, Maitreyi Devi wrote the famous book Na Hanyate, which eventually won the prestigious Sahitya Academy award.
