J. M. Synge, the noted Irish playwright of modern times, has re-constructed the queer milieu of wild and fantastic world of the inhabitants of Aran Islands in this tragi-comedy The Playboy of The Western World. The play is known for the uproar that it created among the Irish community by its slanderous use of phrases in the dialogues but, stands out for its unique plot that delineates the transformation of the hero Christy Mahon, a village naive, to a confident youth. The style is farcical that is mainly comic in tone except the final lamentation of Pegeen, the heroine of the Play.
