Civil Lines is a new venture, an attempt at gathering and presenting the best unpublished writing connected with India. Very loosely speaking, Civil Lines is a literary venture. This first issue contains travel-writing, memoirs, and reflective pieces that are sought out by readers of serious fiction for their casual disregard of strict taxonomies. Subsequent issues will probably include essays, short stories, self-contained bits from forthcoming novels, thought-provoking journalism, poems, parody, satire, and new English translations of regional writing.
